Build a private practice you don't need to recover from.
Mentoring for therapists who are done with burnout, ready to work sustainably, and want to build something that leaves room for the rest of their life too.
If any of this sounds familiar...
→ You left a toxic workplace or overwhelming NHS caseload for the freedom of private practice, and somehow ended up just as burned out, just with better stationery.
→ You're the therapist, the receptionist, the accountant, and the marketing department, and you're exhausted before a single client walks through the door.
→ Boundaries exist in theory. In practice, you're still answering emails at 9pm and feeling guilty about your fees.
→ You know you need to market your practice but it feels uncomfortable, inauthentic, or just like one more thing on an already impossible list.
→ You're spending your weekends catching up on notes instead of actually resting, and telling yourself it'll calm down soon.
→ You're exhausted, and part of what's exhausting you is a caseload that doesn't quite fit. But you don't know how to attract different clients without feeling like you're compromising your integrity.
Imagine if...
→ You woke up on a Monday morning actually looking forward to your week because your caseload is full of clients you chose, not whoever happened to enquire.
→ Admin took an hour, not your entire Friday afternoon because you've built systems that quietly do the heavy lifting for you.
→ Your boundaries weren't just something you talked about in sessions, they were something you actually lived, without the guilt trip that usually follows.
→ You posted about your practice in a way that felt like you, and the right people found you because of it.
→ You took a full weekend off. No emails, no notes, no nagging feeling that you should be doing something.
→ You booked a holiday and actually went, knowing your practice could handle your absence without everything falling apart.
→ You finished your notes the same day, left your desk at a reasonable hour, and had energy left over for the life you built this practice for.
What we'll tackle
Boundaries that actually hold Not just knowing you need them, but actually having them. We'll look at where yours are slipping, why the guilt shows up, and how to rebuild them in a way that sticks long term. No more 9pm emails. No more Sunday crisis texts.
Systems that work for you Admin that takes an hour, not a day. We'll build the structures that mean your practice runs smoothly without running you into the ground, so Friday afternoon is yours again.
Rest as a non-negotiable Proper gaps between sessions. Weekends that feel like weekends. Annual leave you actually take. We'll make rest a structural part of your practice, not something you squeeze in when you've earned it.
Burnout prevention for the long game Learning your early warning signs before they become a crisis. Knowing when to pull back, how to change course, and having full permission to do so.
Marketing that feels like you Attracting aligned clients without compromising your integrity or spending hours on content that goes nowhere. We'll build an approach that feels authentic, ethical, and actually works.
Hi, I’m Lauren
I'm a BACP accredited psychotherapist, founder of The Burnout Therapist, and lead a group practice in Ayrshire where I work alongside a team of associate therapists. I hold an MA in Psychology, a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT, and I'm a qualified EMDR practitioner. I've spent years working across charities, schools, and a wide variety of client groups before building my own private practice from the ground up.
I specialise in burnout recovery, and yes, I learned the hard way that therapists aren't immune to it either. Before I got here, there was overworking, figuring out my niche, and personal circumstances that forced me to rebuild in ways I hadn't planned for. That trial and error is exactly what shaped the practice I have now.
I understand why these patterns creep in. The people-pleasing, the guilt, the sense that you should just be able to handle it. For many of us, the same things that make us brilliant therapists are the ones that make us vulnerable to burning out.
After rebuilding my own practice I now have systems that let me show up fully for my clients and still have a life outside of work. We're talking actual holidays, slow mornings, and quality time with my dachshunds Freddie and Jonah. The dream!
Now I help other therapists build the same.

This is the right fit if you're:

FAQs

Is this only for therapists in private practice?
1
Yes, this mentoring is specifically designed for qualified therapists and counsellors who are running or building their own private practice. If that's you, you're in the right place.
I'm just starting out in private practice. Is this still relevant for me?
2
Absolutely. In fact, building sustainable foundations from the beginning is the best thing you can do. It's much easier to build good systems and boundaries early than to unpick burnout patterns later.
What if I'm already burned out?
3
That's exactly why this exists. Whether you're in the thick of it or just starting to notice the warning signs, this is the right time to get support, not after things get worse.
How is this different from therapy or supervision?
4
This is mentoring, not therapy or clinical supervision. We focus on the practical and personal structures of your practice; your boundaries, systems, workload, and marketing, rather than clinical casework or your personal history.
How do the WhatsApp check-ins work?
I'm available Monday to Friday for questions, reflections, and support between sessions. It's not 24/7 crisis support, it's a space to stay accountable and get guidance as you implement changes in real time.
Can I start with the Intensive and move to the Foundation later?
Absolutely, in fact that's a great way to get clarity before committing to the longer package.
Not ready to commit to mentoring yet?
Start with the Boundaries & Balance Workshop, a free resource to help you prevent burnout in private practice.
